I Used to be a Rapper...

As shocking as that might be, it's true...the Rap Hater Himself, used to be an MC. It was a short lived rap career which occured between 1998-2000 (Roughly). I wasn't a good rapper, nor was I a bad rapper. Just a Rapper. I don't have an inspiring story about why I chose to be a rapper. No rags to riches story about how I used to be homeless and spit rhymes in an alley just to get discovered. No Drug Kingpin turned Rapper story. Nope. I was just bored in class one day and me and a couple of friends decided to write some rhymes on that day.

Once I got to College, I discovered that a few of my friends had similar stories so we started writing more, recorded some freestyles (for personal use) and eventually quit. My rap name was J-Rock: The Verbal Assassin. I wasn't a Gangsta Rapper nor was I a Conscious Rapper. In fact, I don't know how to describe my style but at the time, I was a heavy listener of Boot Camp Clik, Wu-Tang, Nas and Mobb Deep. As you see from the Rap Hater and The Rap Snob, my tastes in rap music haven't changed much at all but all of those influences were evident in my rap style.

My brief Rap career was fun but the fact that I had no aspirations of getting a record deal, coupled with my growing disdain for Rappers in general, eventually it became obvious that the best way for me to advance my rap career was to kill it before it even started. So I retired from the Mic and decided to use my writing skills for more beneficial and fulfilling projects like sporadically updating a Blog with irrelevant bullshit that nobody reads or cares about. I think I made the right choice.

Before I retired, I actually wrote an entire album. please note the key word "wrote" because none of the songs were ever recorded. The album was titled: Lyrical Bullets. It was an eclectic yet cohesive collection of battle raps, insightful narratives, personal reflection, visual imagery and a whole lot of good old fashioned shit talking. As I said before, I wasn't a good rapper, but I wasn't a bad one...Just a Rapper. A Retired rapper.

I recently stumbled across my old rhyme book and found all of the songs from the unreleased, unrecorded album so, since I have nothing better to post on BlackDroog.com, I'm posting them here. But before I do that...I also designed an album cover in honor of the album that was never released or recorded.
